A large fire at a landfill site in Dunfermline has been extinguished a day after it broke out.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service urged people to avoid the area and residents around Wellwood to keep their windows closed after 22 firefighters were called to Lochhead landfill site on Sunday afternoon.
Crews from four appliances worked to extinguish the blaze, which affected a large number of mattresses and a shredder.
Footage on social media showed large plumes of smoke visible miles away from the site.
The blaze was extinguished at around 10.30am on Monday and there were no casualties.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 1.28pm on Sunday, August 24 to reports of a fire within a landfill site near to the Wellwood area of Dunfermline.
“Operations Control mobilised four fire appliances and one height vehicle to the scene and approximately 22 firefighters extinguished a fire affecting a large number of mattresses and a shredder.
“There were no reported casualties and crews left the scene at approximately 10.33am on Monday, August 25 after ensuring the area was made safe”
