Lorry carrying livestock overturns near Haugh Park in Cupar as rescue operation launched

A lorry carrying livestock has overturned close to a public park in Fife.

Emergency services were called to the East Bridge near Haugh Park in Cupar around 10.20am after the vehicle overturned.

Two fire engines and a specialist heavy lifting vehicle were dispatched to the scene to assist with the recovery of the vehicle and the livestock onboard.

The lorry driver was uninjured.

Scottish Fire and Rescue said they were liaising with vets regarding the recovery of the cattle.

The road at East Bridge was closed between the two roundabouts while the incident was dealt with.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 10.32am on Thursday, August 15, to reports of an overturned lorry at the East Bridge in Cupar.

“Operations control immediately mobilised three appliances and a heavy rescue unit to the scene, where firefighters assisted partners to remove livestock from the vehicle.

“One appliance remains on site and firefighters will make the area safe before leaving the scene.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson added: “After a lorry overturned around 10.20am this morning, the road at East Bridge in Cupar is currently closed between the two roundabouts.

“There are no reported injuries. The road will be closed whilst the vehicle is recovered. Please use an alternative route.”
