Lorry which crashed and burst into flames in Aberdeenshire closed road for several hours

A road was closed for several hours on Thursday night after a lorry crashed and burst into flames in Aberdeenshire.

Shortly before 7pm on June 8, emergency services were called to the incident at Cairn O’ Mount Road in Fettercairn.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) mobilised five appliances from Laurencekirk, Brechin and Banchory.

Police are also in the area to help with traffic management.

The road reopened to traffic at 10.45pm on Thursday night.

There were no injuries as a result of the fire.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 7pm on Thursday, 8 June, 2023, we received a report of a lorry on fire at Cairn O Mount Road, Fettercairn.

“Emergency services attended and the road reopened at 10.45pm.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 6.52pm on Thursday, June 8 to reports of an HGV on fire near Fettercairn, Aberdeenshire.

“Operations control mobilised five appliances to the scene at Cairn O’ Mount Road, where firefighters extinguished the fire and worked to make the area safe before leaving the scene.

“There were no casualties.”
