Major fire at disused hospital building treated as deliberate

Around 50 firefighters tackled the blaze at a disused office building on the Woodend Hospital site in Aberdeen on Monday night

A large fire, which took place on the grounds of a hospital in Aberdeen, is being treated as deliberate.

Emergency services were called to the disused office building on the grounds of Woodend Hospital around 9.50pm on Monday.

Around 50 firefighters, nine fire engines and a high-reach appliance tackled the blaze at its height, with work continuing into Tuesday evening.

The disused office building, Westholme, is located at a B-listed address and sits around 60 metres from the closest hospital building.

No injuries were reported, and the fire is now being treated as wilful.

The public has been urged to avoid the area, and a cordon remains at the site.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Around 10.20pm on Monday, April 13, 2026, we were made aware of a fire at a disused building around the Woodend Hospital site at Eday Road, Aberdeen.

“Emergency services attended, and the fire was extinguished. There were no reported injuries.

“The fire is being treated as wilful, and enquiries are ongoing.

“A cordon remains in place, and members of the public are advised to continue to avoid the area where possible at this time.”

NHS Grampian confirmed that appointments and services are running as normal, and advised attending patients to use the Eday Road site entrance.

A spokesperson said: “Services and appointments at Woodend Hospital, in Aberdeen, are running as scheduled today and patients should attend as normal.

“Site roads adjacent to the disused office building affected by last night’s fire are cordoned off, and patients should enter the site from Eday Road. Our outpatient car parks remain open.
