Man, 62, found dead after early hours fire breaks out at flat in Perth

A man was found dead after a fire broke out at a flat in Perth.

Emergency services were called to the property on St Catherine’s Road at around 5.15am on Sunday.

Scottish Fire and Rescue service dispatched three appliances to the scene and a fire within a second-floor property was extinguished.

Police Scotland confirmed a 62-yea-old man was found within the property and pronounced dead at the scene.

The man’s next of kin have been made award.

A joint investigation was carried out with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Services, and there were “no suspicious circumstances” found.

A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 5.15am on Sunday, March 2, 2025, police received a report of a fire at a flat on St Catherine’s Road, Perth.

“Emergency services attended and a man was found within the property

“The 62-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene and next of kin are aware.

“A joint investigation was carried out with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Services, and there were no suspicious circumstances. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”

Area commander Michael Humphreys of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 4.53am on Sunday, March 2, to reports of a fire within a flat on St Catherine’s Road, Perth.

“Operations Control mobilised three appliances to the scene and a fire within a second-floor property was extinguished.

“Crews located and removed one male from the property, however sadly he was later pronounced dead at the scene.

“A joint fire investigation alongside Police Scotland is now underway.”

Scottish Ambulance Service has been alerted.
