Coastguard teams from Aberdeen and Cruden Bay were alerted to a person in the water at Donmouth in Aberdeen on Thursday evening.
A rescue helicopter also landed at the scene to provide paramedic support prior to the arrival of the Scottish Ambulance Service.
The man was airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary after being rescued by the city’s lifeboat team.
A second person was also airlifted to hospital on the advice of the helicopter doctor, although they had not entered the water.
The dog is safe and well after the rescue.
