A man has been arrested after a child was knocked down in Dundee.

Emergency services were called to Stobsmuir Road at around 1.30pm on Wednesday following reports of a crash involving a van and a pedestrian.

A schoolgirl, aged nine, was taken to hospital for treatment after she was struck by the vehicle.

Officers have arrested a 52-year-old man in connection with a road traffic offence. An investigation into the circumstances is ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 1.30pm on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, we received a report of a crash involving a van and a pedestrian on Stobsmuir Road, Dundee.

“Emergency services attended, and the pedestrian, a nine-year-old girl, was taken to hospital for treatment.

“A 52-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a road traffic offence, and enquiries are ongoing.”

Sergeant Michael Guild said: “I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash or was driving in the area at the time and saw the vehicle prior to the crash, please come forward and speak to officers. 

“I’d also ask that those with dash-cam footage or CCTV review this to see if it has captured anything that could assist with our investigation.”
