Google MapsA man has been arrested after a stranger entered the grounds of a primary school and attempted to speak with the children.
Kids at Ruthvenfield Primary in Perth were immediately taken inside by staff on Wednesday and the police were called.
Officers issued an appeal releasing a description of the unknown man they were looking for following the incident.
The school’s headteacher Sarah Burke informed parents by issuing a notice on Wednesday.
“At lunchtime today, a member of the public entered the playground without permission,” she said.
“As this person was unknown to school staff, the children were immediately taken inside. Whilst many children were unaware of the situation, all were reassured by staff.
“The police were contacted and confirmed they were following this up.
“Whilst this was an isolated incident, staff will be extra vigilant and extra measures have been put in place.”
On Thursday, Police Scotland confirmed a man had been arrested in connection with the incident.
The force said a 55-year-old had been taken into custody and that enquiries were ongoing.
“Officers would like to thank members of the public for their assistance in this matter,” a spokesperson said.
A Perth and Kinross Council spokesperson said: “As the man was unknown to staff, children were immediately taken inside the school and police were contacted.
“We are continuing to assist them with their enquiries.”
