A man was attacked twice by the same group of men during an attempted robbery in Arbroath.
The 60-year-old was initially approached by two men on Seaton Road at around 11.50pm on Monday, February 6 when he was assaulted in an unprovoked incident.
The pair then left the area but later returned with a third man and carried out a second attack before fleeing again.
Officers said the victim did not require hospital treatment, despite sustaining injuries, but have now launched an appeal to trace those responsible.
They are all thought to be aged between 18-23, around 5’9 and 5’10 in height, and were wearing dark hoodies with the hoods up.
The third man, who joined the second attack, had a noticeably larger build than the other two. All three spoke with a local accent.
Detective constable Greg Dempster said: “This is completely unacceptable, a man on his way home has been attacked for no reason. It’s imperative we trace the men responsible.
“I would ask anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident to think back and consider if they noticed anything suspicious or may have seen a red coloured hatchback car in the area, as it may assist our enquiries.
“In particular, if anyone has a dash cam device, please check your footage as it could hold images which would assist in identifying those responsible.
“Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 4185 of February 6, 2023. Alternatively, please contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where you can remain anonymous.”
