A man who attacked a nurse and security guard with CS spray at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary’s A& E department has been jailed.

Piotr Huczynski pled guilty to ten separate charges – including firearms offences and assault – after the incident in October.

Emergency services were called to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary on October 10, 2025, following reports of a disturbance, in which two people were left injured.

The hospital’s emergency department was placed on lockdown for three hours following the incident.

Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard a security guard and a nurse were attacked with CS gas by a man who was “irate” at the staff over the length of time he had spent in the waiting room.

Huczynski, 37, admitted carrying out the attack in January, and pleaded guilty to a total of ten charges, including assault, threatening and abusive behaviour, and being in possession of and recklessly discharging the CS spray.

In passing down the sentence, Sheriff Craig Findlater told Huczynski he had acted in a way which caused “injury and distress” and that before him, there were a number of other offences which were serious in their own right.

He was jailed for a total of three years and eight months.

NHS Grampian’s chief executive has welcomed the sentence and praised the bravery of the staff involved – reiterating that no one should face violence at work.
