A man has died after his fishing boat capsized in the North Sea on Thursday, sparking a huge rescue operation.
Emergency services including the police, RNLI lifeboats, coastguard rescue teams from Fraserburgh and Macduff, and a coastguard search and rescue helicopter scrambled to the scene after the alarm was raised shortly after 11am on September 21.
The 69-year-old man was found in the water after a fishing boat overturned in the sea near Macduff.
He was pronounced dead and there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 12pm on Thursday, September 21, a 69-year-old man was found in the water after a fishing boat overturned in the North Sea near Macduff. He was pronounced dead a short time later.
“There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
