A man has died and three people taken to hospital after a lorry and a car crashed on the A95 in Moray.

Police confirmed a 56-year-old male rear passenger of a Vauxhall Crossland was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision on the A941 near Craigellachie at around 4.25pm on Tuesday, April 23.

Three people, including the driver of the car and two other passengers, were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, with one patient airlifted to the hospital.

The driver of the Mercedes HGV was not injured.

A large emergency services response including four ambulances and three fire crews attended the scene.

The road was closed overnight to allow for investigation before reopening to drivers at around 7am on Wednesday morning.

Police said enquiries into the crash remain ongoing.

Road Policing Sergeant Iain Nicolson said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died and everyone involved in this incident.

“As our enquiries continue, I’d appeal to anyone with information to come forward.

“I’d be particularly keen to speak to anyone who saw what happened or has dashcam footage of the area around the time.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference 2517 of April 23.

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 4.30pm on Tuesday to attend an incident on the A941 at Craigellachie.

“We dispatched four ambulances, our special operations team and an air ambulance to the scene.

“We airlifted one patient to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and two patients via road to ARI.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 4.34pm on Tuesday, April 23 to reports of a road traffic collision involving a car and a lorry on the A941 near Craigellachie Bridge.

“Operations Control mobilised three appliances and heavy rescue unit to the scene, where crews worked with emergency service partners to make the area safe.

“Crews left the scene at 6.10pm.”
