A man who raped two sleeping women has been jailed for ten years.
Jonathan Moroney, 39, preyed on his victims at a property in Portlethen, Aberdeenshire, between March 2012 and May 2023.
Court papers state Moroney – who previously worked in renewable energy – attacked the first woman on various occasions.
He also physically assaulted her by pushing and pinching her on the body as well as seizing her on the neck.
The second woman was also physically assaulted as well as raped by Moroney.
The charge says he pushed her on the body, punched her on the head, seized her by the ankles and pulled her from a bed.
He went on to seize her by the neck, push her out of the property and lock her out while she was dressed in a towel.
Moroney then pushed her to the ground and attempted to push her into a dog cage to her injury.
Moroney was found guilty by a jury after trial of a total of six charges and was sentenced on Friday at the High Court in Glasgow.
Judge Lord Renucci imposed a 13-year extended sentence upon Moroney, now of Bridge of Don, with ten years being spent behind bars.
The judge stated that the extended sentence was put in place to “protect women” from Moroney.
He added: “You continue to deny responsibility for the offences and have expressed no remorse.
“You have engaged in a catalogue of victim-blaming, saying that they have been colluding against you.
“Whatever you think, you are not the victim here – you are here because of your behaviour towards them.
“Your offending had serious consequences upon your victims.
“Letters of support have been tendered by your friends and family, and I recognise the upset your actions have had, but there is no one to blame other than you.
“The victim impact statements tell me the impact of your behaviour is significant.”
