A man who raped a woman in a church graveyard in Aberdeen has been jailed for seven years.
A 32-year-old woman was attacked in the St Clement Street area of the city in the early hours of the morning on Sunday, May 15, 2022.
Officers cordoned off the area around the East St Clement Street church shortly after 2.20am during the initial investigation.
Sean Alexander Wyness, 34, was sentenced at the High Court in Aberdeen on Friday for the attack.
Detective inspector Ryan Morris said: “Wyness will now face the consequences of his despicable actions in prison.
“I would like to commend the woman for her strength in coming forward during the investigation and I hope today’s sentencing brings her some sense of closure and helps her move on from this traumatic ordeal.
“We would encourage anyone who has experienced any form of violent or sexual offence, regardless of when it happened, to report it to us. We will investigate thoroughly and have specially trained officers and partner agencies who will support you throughout.”
