A man, a woman, and a young boy have been rescued from the water at Aberdeen beach.

Police Scotland, the Coastguard and the Scottish Ambulance Service were called to the water at around 4pm on Sunday, following reports of three people in difficulty.

A rescue attempt was launched, and a man, woman and young boy were successfully rescued and taken to hospital to be checked over.

It comes while an amber weather warning is in place across the north-west of Scotland, which is due to remain until Monday morning.

Officers have urged the public not to attend the beach due to the “exceptional” weather, due to the presence of large waves.

Sergeant Scott McKay said: “We are aware of a number of people who are still in the beach area and we would urge them to leave as soon as possible for safety reasons.

“The weather we are experiencing is creating unsafe conditions and I would ask that you follow our advice.”
