Parts of Scotland brace for two days of downpours as weather alert issued

The north east of Scotland is set to face more weather misery in the coming days, as a yellow weather alert for heavy rain was issued by the Met Office.

The weather warning will come into force at 9am on Tuesday, running through to 11.59pm on Wednesday, covering parts of Perth and Kinross, Tayside, Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.

The forecaster has warned drivers to expect difficult conditions and some road closures in the region. Up to 60mm of rainfall is expected, with some higher ground facing snow on Tuesday.

It is the latest in a series of weather warnings issued by the Met Office in the north of the country, with much of Aberdeenshire and Angus experiencing twice the normal amount of rainfall in January – the wettest since 2016.

Last month was the area’s ninth-wettest January on record, dating back to 1836.
