A milkman helped save a pensioner’s life after he spotted her lying on the road covered in blood in Perth and Kinross.
Jamie Muir spotted Betty Lawrie, 85, lying on the ground on Western Avenue, Perth, after she had fallen over and suffered a head injury on Friday night.
Betty was days away from celebrating her 85th birthday when she was found lying on the road with her bag beside her.
Jamie, who works for Thomson Dairies, stopped his car and made sure she was stable, while emergency services were alerted.
Betty was taken to hospital to receive the care she needed, and Jamie has received praise from her family for his actions.
Jaki Walker, Betty’s Granddaughter, sent a thank you message to Thomson Dairies, saying: “I just wanted to send a personal thanks from myself and all my family.
“One of your drivers found my gran lying on the road on western Avenue a couple of nights ago and stopped to help her. She’d fallen and had a head injury.
“Thank you so much for your help and to let you know that she is back at home and recovering well.
“The help was amazing and much appreciated by myself and my mum and uncle. Can’t thank you guys enough.”
Mr Muir said: “I am so happy to have spotted her out the corner of my eye and went to help. I was automatically thinking that she needed help.
“Thankfully At Thomson Dairies we are given full training when taking up the role. Part of this is to look out for customers that may need assistance.
“If curtains haven’t been opened for days, if mail is building up, if milk deliveries haven’t been getting taken in and so on.
“I was concerned due to it being dark and also next to a very fast and busy road. I’m just glad this story had a happy ending.”
William Thomson, director of Thomson Dairies, said: “I am immensely proud of Jamie for his actions and heroics.
“This could have been anyone’s mother or grandmother and we are just happy Jamie intervened when he did, so thankfully due to our milkman’s awareness and fast reactions she will make a full recovery.”
