More than 100 road traffic offences have been recorded in total after police descended on a “car meet-up” event in Aberdeen last month.
Around 700 cars were present when police attended a large-scale meet-up on Garthdee Road in Aberdeen on Saturday, May 30 after receiving multiple calls from the public reporting serious disorder in the area.
As a result of enquiries including CCTV, social media, and dashcam footage, police have detected a further three offences of dangerous driving and 17 careless driving offences.
The owners of the vehicles have all been served with notices of intended prosecution, with many drivers being dealt with under anti-social behaviour legislation.
Officers are also visiting those responsible.
Some will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal and others will be dealt with by diversionary methods, police said.
Road policing inspector Steve Manson said: “The serious disorder witnessed at the event last month will not be accepted. Drivers selfishly put others at risk by carrying out dangerous manoeuvres within the car park.
“Officers stopped each car on the way out of the car park and drivers were identified and captured on body-worn video. While they may have thought there would be no repercussions, a team of officers have reviewed footage of the event and identified the vehicles involved in the more serious offences.
“While the majority of the attendees behaved, our message is clear, the type of behaviour displayed by a small group of drivers will not be tolerated and we will take a robust approach to any offences that are detected.”
