More than 200 inmates at HMP Perth have been forced to self-isolate following a small Covid outbreak.
As of Thursday, 11 people have tested positive for coronavirus at the jail.
A Scottish Prison Service spokesperson confirmed that a total of 214 individuals are now in quarantine to stem any potential spread of the deadly disease.
They explained: “Due to the unique circumstances of a custodial environment and the close proximity in which people live together, the numbers isolating can be greater when compared to community settings.”
On Wednesday, a further 29 deaths and 8495 new cases of Covid-19 were reported across Scotland.
A total of 1571 people were in hospital with recently confirmed coronavirus. Out of those, 44 patients were in intensive care.
It was also reported that a total of 4,401,876 people in Scotland have received their first dose of a Covid vaccine, 4,092,558 their second, and 3,223,113 their third shot or booster.
