The A96 in Moray has reopened having been closed for 11 hours after a crash that killed a motorcyclist and left a car driver injured.

Emergency services were called to the road between Alves and Forres after the collision between a Yamaha Tracer 9 motorbike and a white Hyundai i10 car at around 8.40am on Sunday.

The 34-year-old male rider of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene.

The female driver of the car suffered minor injuries.

The road was closed until around 7.40pm to allow for an investigation at the scene.

Police Scotland has appealed for any witnesses to come forward.

Sergeant Alexander Bowser-Riley said, “Our thoughts are with the family of the motorcyclist at this very sad time.

“I would urge anyone who saw either vehicle shortly prior to the collision, particularly on the A96 between Elgin and Forres, who witnessed the collision or who may have dashcam footage to contact us.

“Anyone who can help is asked to call 101, quoting incident 1112 of July 30.”
