A large-scale rescue response in Aberdeen was called off on Thursday night after a reported “person in the water” was identified as a seal.
The Coastguard were alerted to the incident at around 10.42pm, with teams from Aberdeen and Stonehaven sent to the scene near the city’s Queen Elizabeth Bridge.
An Aberdeen lifeboat and a nearby vessel joined the search alongside Police Scotland and the Fire Service.
The operation was carried out and the sighting was later deemed to be a seal swimming in the area.
A spokesperson from the Coastguard said: “At around 10.42pm last night, HM Coastguard received reports of a person in the water at the River Dee in Aberdeen.
“Coastguard Rescue Teams from Aberdeen and Stonehaven were sent, along with RNLI Aberdeen lifeboat, a nearby vessel, Police Scotland and the Fire Service. A search was completed, and the sighting was later attributed to animal activity.”
