Multiple trains have been cancelled “until further notice” due to an ongoing signalling fault.
ScotRail confirmed that services between Elgin and Inverness, and Inverurie to Aberdeen, were cancelled on Wednesday.
The rail operator said the cancellations were due to a power supply issue at Network Rail’s signalling centre.
It added that services are cancelled until further notice while repair works are carried out.
A spokesperson for Network Rail Scotland said: “We’re experiencing an issue at our signalling centre, which is impacting some services between Inverness and Elgin, and Aberdeen and Inverurie. While a slightly reduced timetable is operating today to enable engineering work to be undertaken, all other services are running as normal.
“Our teams are working hard to resolve the problem, and we advise passengers to check with their train operator before travelling. We’re sorry for the inconvenience and appreciate everyone’s patience.”
