A health board has warned trespassers to stay away from closed buildings at Stratheden Hospital due to “serious safety risks”.

The warning from NHS Fife comes after police confirmed they are aware of reports of people accessing areas of the site that are not open to the public.

The health board is now working with police in a bid to stop trespassers.

Officials stressed that the buildings have been closed and secured for a reason and are clearly signposted as out of bounds.

They said the properties pose serious safety risks, including unstable structures, possible asbestos contamination, and other hazards.

Stratheden is a community hospital caring for patients with mental health issues.

“We’re aware of people entering closed buildings on the Stratheden Hospital site”, a statement from NHS Fife read. “This is unauthorised, and Police Scotland is aware.

“These buildings are closed and secured for a reason and are not open to the public.

“They present serious safety risks, including unstable structures, asbestos, and other potential hazards, and are clearly signposted as out of bounds.

“Unauthorised access is trespassing and puts individuals, patients and staff at risk. It can also cause distress to people receiving care on the site.

“Please do not attempt to access closed parts of the site or share information encouraging others to do so.”
