A nine-year-old boy is among six people who have been charged amid an off-road motorbike crackdown in Dundee.

On Sunday, officers from the Longhaugh, Downfield, Hilltown/Maryfield and City Centre Community Policing Teams took part in Operation Challenge, targeting the vehicles.

During the joint day of action, five males aged between nine and 35, and one woman aged 38, were charged with various road traffic offences.

A 39-year-old man was charged with threatening and abusive behaviour. Officers seized four unregistered, off-road motorcycles.

Further action targeting the vehicles is due to be carried out over the coming weeks.

A Police Scotland statement read: “Unfortunately, we are continuing to see young children driving these types of vehicles and we would appeal to parents and guardians to be aware of the dangers that these types of vehicles pose and the legislation around their use.

“As a reminder – unregistered, off-road motorcycles such as Sur-Ron’s cannot be driven in public places, which includes roads and public parks.

“Parents and guardians of children found driving unregistered, off-road motorcycles, can also be held responsible and may face prosecution, as has been the case from our day of action whereby several parents have been cautioned and charged regarding cause and permit offences.”
