Adobe StockPolice say no criminality has been established after reports of a man wielding a weapon near an Aberdeenshire primary school.
Emergency services were made aware of the alleged incident at around 4pm on Tuesday on Cookston Road near Portlethen Primary School.
Posts online started to circulate regarding the incident, with an anonymous account claiming that a man dressed in all black was seen “carrying and swinging a very long knife”.
Officers attended and did not locate the man.
Detectives reviewed CCTV and carried out door-to-door enquiries; however, no criminality was established.
Chief Inspector Gareth Hannan confirmed that the area was busy at the time and they received no other reports of the individual.
He added: “Following extensive CCTV reviews and door-to-door enquiries, no criminality has been established and there is nothing to suggest there is any risk to the public.
“Enquiries are now complete, however any new, relevant information will be assessed.”
Aberdeenshire Council confirmed that there was “no ongoing issues”
An Aberdeenshire Council spokesperson said: “We are aware of an incident reported in the Portlethen area yesterday and understand that this may be causing concern within our community.
“We can confirm there is no connection to any schools in the Portlethen area.
“There are no ongoing issues or concerns at the school, and our pupils continue to learn as usual.
“Please be assured that the safety and wellbeing of our pupils is our utmost priority.”
