Number of deaths after coronavirus outbreak at care home

A number of residents at an Aberdeenshire care home have died following a coronavirus outbreak.

Operators Barchester Healthcare confirmed Covid-19 had claimed lives at the Kirkburn Court care home in Peterhead.

The home, which houses up to 64 people, looks after private residents and offers specialist nursing and dementia care.

It is not known how many people have died at this stage.

A statement from Barchester read: “We have had, and continue to have, residents and patients confirmed with Covid-19, and tragically we have had residents and patients that have sadly passed away from this awful virus.

“Every one of these deaths is a tragedy for all of us, and we send our heartfelt condolences to our residents, patients, and their families that have suffered.”

National Records of Scotland’s figures revealed that up until May 10 a total of 93 people had died in care homes in the Grampian region.

The Peterhead care home outbreak comes after a tenth resident died at the Home Farm care home in Skye.
