A police officer who attended the fatal Stonehaven train derailment has been recommended for an award for his bravery.
Liam Mercer was one of the first officers on the scene when the train crashed in Aberdeenshire on August 12.
Driver Brett McCullough, conductor Donald Dinnie and passenger Christopher Stuchbury were killed in the crash.
A report which was published on Thursday found the train derailed after striking “a pile of washed-out rock and gravel”.
PC Mercer met with Prince Charles in the aftermath of the derailment when the royal visited the site of the crash.
Transport secretary Grant Shapps has said he is writing to Iain Thomas Livingstone, Chief Constable of Police Scotland, to recommend that PC Mercer is commended for his bravery.
