A pedestrian has died after being hit by a vehicle in an early morning crash.

Police were called to the scene on the A956 Aberdeen West Peripheral Route between the Charleston and Cleanhill junctions at about 01:20 on Thursday.

A male pedestrian was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed to drivers for 10 hours to allow investigations to be carried out.

The A956 is part of the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route that encircles the city.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Around 1.20am on Thursday, March 30, officers were called to a report of a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian on the A956 Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route between the Charleston and Cleanhill junctions.

“The male pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The road was closed for around 10 hours to allow investigations to be carried out. Enquiries are ongoing.”
