A pensioner has died and a toddler is among three in hospital following a collision in Aberdeenshire.

Emergency services attended following the incident on the A90, north of Balmedie, on Thursday at around 9.35am.

The road was closed for several hours after a collision between a silver BMW and a black Nissan Qashqai.

A 91-yea- old man, who was driving the BMW, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The occupants of the Qashqai, a 41-year-old man, a 26-year-old woman, and a boy, aged 18 months, were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

Their current condition is unknown.

Enquiries into the incident are ongoing and investigating officers are appealing for any witnesses to get in touch.

Constable Craig Laing, North East Road Policing, Inverurie, said: “We would appeal to anyone who witnessed the crash, who has not already come forward, to contact police. We are keen to obtain any dash-cam footage from motorists in the area at the time.”
