A pensioner who threw over £1,000 worth of drugs out of a car window as police tailed him has been jailed for seven years.
Henry Derrett was initially followed through various streets in Aberdeen due to erratic driving on September 9 2018.
The 65 year-old noticed the officers and tried to get rid of a stash of cocaine he had.
But, he was soon caught and is now behind bars having been sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow on Wednesday.
Derrett had earlier been convicted after a trial in Aberdeen of being concerned in the supply of cocaine between June and September 2018 in the city’s Cadenhead Road and Cairncry Crescent.
It emerged the OAP, of Bonnyview Place, Aberdeen, already had previous class A drug convictions and faced a mandatory seven year prison stint.
Judge Alistair Watson told him: “Police were initially concerned about the manner of your driving.
“They then observed you attempting to dispose of packages of drugs from the window onto the road.
“You were then found in possession of crack cocaine and pipes to smoke the drug.
“The total value of the drugs was £1,340.
“However, as you know, there was then text messages found between you and others showing that you had been involved in drug dealing on a commercial basis.”
David Moggach, defending, earlier said on Wednesday that Derrett had struggled with personal issues for a number of years.
