Person airlifted to hospital after falling from cliff in Stonehaven near Todhead Lighthouse

A person has been airlifted to hospital after falling from a cliff in Aberdeenshire.

Emergency services including RNLI and Coastguard were called to reports of a person having fallen near Todhead Lighthouse around 11.40am on February 8.

Montrose, Stonehaven and Arbroath Coastguard Rescue Teams, a lifeboat from Stonehaven RNLI and the Coastguard helicopter from Inverness were sent to the scene.

During the rescue mission, two RNLI volunteers swam ashore with medical kits to provide assistance alongside the Coastguard teams.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) confirmed that two ambulances were dispatched to the scene.

One person was airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and two patients were treated at the scene.

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 11:53 on February 8, 2024 to attend an incident near Todhead Lighthouse, Stonehaven.

“Two ambulances, HM Coastguard and RNLI Stonehaven attended the scene. One patient was transported by air to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and two patients were treated at the scene.”

A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said: “We responded to reports that a person had fallen near Todhead Lighthouse, Stonehaven, at around 11.40am on February 8.

“Montrose, Stonehaven and Arbroath Coastguard Rescue Teams, a lifeboat from Stonehaven RNLI and the Coastguard helicopter from Inverness were sent to the scene.

“The casualty was taken to hospital by helicopter.”
