A person has died after being hit by a train near Aberdeen.

Emergency services were called to the railway after reports that a person was hit by a train between Aberdeen and Dundee on Monday morning.

The incident occurred just after 5.30am and, despite paramedics being called, the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

Train lines have been cancelled and delayed while emergency services tend to the scene.

In a statement, National Rail said: “A person has been hit by a train between Aberdeen and Dundee. As all lines are currently closed, trains may be cancelled or diverted.

“Major disruption is expected until 09:00.

“If you’ve been affected by what happened on the network today, there is always someone to talk to. You can contact the Samaritans on 116 123 from any phone for a confidential chat.”

Services affected include ScotRail lines between Inverness, Aberdeen, Perth, Glasgow, Dundee and Edinburgh.

The Caledonian Sleeper between Aberdeen and Edinburgh and CrossCountry between Aberdeen and Dundee / Penzance as well as LNER between Aberdeen and London Kings Cross have also been affected.

The disruption is expected to last until 9am.

A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to the line in Aberdeen at 5.31am on June 19 following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the Procurator Fiscal.”
