Plans have been unveiled for a £480m hotel and golf resort on farmland in Angus.
The proposed Brae of Angus development, near the village of Wellbank, would span around 310 acres and feature a hotel, country club, padel courts, gym and swimming pools. If approved, it would become the first five-star hotel in Angus.
An existing 18-hole championship golf course at the Shank of Omachie site would be retained, with a new training academy also included in the plans.
In total, the development would comprise around 450 tourist accommodation units, including a five-star hotel with approximately 150 beds, as well as lodges, townhouse-style suites and staff accommodation.
Initial proposals have been submitted to Angus Council, marking the start of a consultation process ahead of a formal planning application.
Developers say the project would create employment opportunities during both the construction phase and once the resort is operational.
Angus Land Company Ltd (ALC), which purchased the site, is now owned by private investment firm Mocca Capital. Hyatt International is expected to operate the hotel, while IMG would manage the golf and wider leisure offering, subject to planning approval.
Two public consultation events are due to take place at Wellbank Village Hall on Monday, April 27 and Wednesday, June 3.
A spokesperson for Angus Land Company said: “The development represents one of the most significant hospitality investments in Scotland in recent years, with a projected investment of approximately £480m while delivering considerable local employment opportunities in both its construction and operations on completion.
“We welcome the opportunity to engage with local communities and present our proposals at the forthcoming consultation events.”
