An investigation has been launched after a “deliberate” fire at a derelict building in Angus.

Emergency services were called to the Gables, in Arbroath Road, at around 5pm on Thursday.

The fire was put out by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and no casualties were reported, but the building was left “extensively damaged”.

The fire is being treated by police as “wilful”, and inquiries are ongoing.

Police Scotland is urging anyone with information regarding the fire to come forward.

Constable Craig Savage said: “Fortunately no one was injured but extensive damage was caused by the fire.

“We are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen something suspicious.

“If anyone has dash-cam footage from around the time, please review it to see if you have captured anything which could help our investigation.”

Anyone who can assist is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2623 of Thursday, 27 February, 2025 , or make a call anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
