Police have said they are aware of a video circulating on social media allegedly showing the riders of an e-bike before it was involved in a crash with four cars.
A 16-year-old, named locally as Gregor Booth, a pupil at Elgin Academy, and 17-year-old Marcus Beck – both pillions on the bike – were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash involving a Sur-ron e-bike on Monday, March 25.
The 14-year-old rider of the e-bike was taken to Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin hospital with serious injuries where he remains in a stable condition.
The driver of a Vauxhall Mokka, a 54-year-old man, was also taken to hospital for treatment before being released.
Police said they are aware of a video circulating on social media which appears to show the e-bike riders prior to the crash.
Anyone with information on the footage or who filmed it is urged to contact police as they may be able to assist with enquiries.
The force said it has been working in partnership with Moray Council to ensure public safety as flowers were laid at site of the crash, but the tributes have been moved to the nearby cycle path.
Sergeant Iain Nicholson said: “Our extensive enquiries into the circumstances of the crash remain ongoing and we are particularly keen to hear from anyone with information on a video which appears to show the e-bike and its riders at an earlier time.
“We understand that this has been an extremely traumatic incident not only to the families and friends of those involved, but also the wider community.
“People will rightly want to pay tribute and we respectfully ask anyone visiting the site to please park sensibly and away from the junction for everyone’s safety, or alternatively reach the area via the cycle path.”
Anyone who can help is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 3247 of Monday, March 25, 2024.
