'Nothing to suggest criminality' in search for missing twin sisters

Eliza and Henrietta Huszti were last seen crossing the Victoria Bridge in Aberdeen on January 7.

There is currently “nothing to suggest criminality” in the search for missing identical twin sisters in Aberdeen, detectives have said.

Eliza and Henrietta Huszti, both 32, were last seen on CCTV on Market Street at the Victoria Bridge over the River Dee in Aberdeen at around 2.12am on Tuesday, January 7, 2025.

They crossed the bridge and turned right onto a footpath next to the river, heading toward Aberdeen Boat Club.

“All our enquiries have led us to the conclusion that the sisters have come to this area alone…”

Superintendent David Howieson

They have not been seen since, and searches have entered their second week.

Their family have said they “just want them home” and pleaded with locals to help find them.

During a press conference on Tuesday, superintendent David Howieson said there is currently “nothing to suggest suspicious circumstances or criminality”.

“We’re remaining open-minded, but as I stand here just now, all our enquiries have led us to the conclusion that the sisters have come to this area alone,” he told STV News.

“They don’t seem to be in the company of anyone else. They don’t seem to have been in contact with anyone else prior to coming here.

“One of our theories has to be that they’ve entered the water for reasons unknown, but there is nothing to suggest criminality or suspicious circumstances at the moment. But we are remaining open-minded.”

32-year-old sisters Eliza and Henrietta Huszti have been reported missing from their home in Aberdeen.Police Scotland

An investigation into their disappearance was launched after their landlord raised the alarm.

The sisters had given notice that they wanted to end their tenancy before a check of the property was carried out.

A search of the flat by police has not indicated that they intended to leave the Aberdeen area or that they intended to “do something to themselves”.

Superintendent Howieson said the sisters lead a “fairly conservative life” and enjoy spending time with each other.

He added that it was “very out of character” for them to be out in the city in the early hours of the morning.

Officers revisited the area in the early hours of January 14, and spoke to pedestrians and drivers to try to gain further insight into the sisters’ movements one week ago.

Searches have focused on the River Dee, and despite enquiries so far, nothing suggests that Eliza or Henrietta left the immediate area.

The extensive search will resume on Tuesday and focus on the River Dee, with further searches involving specialist units continuing.
