Police say 'lives put at risk' after rocks thrown at passing vehicles from Fife footbridge

Police in Fife are appealing for information after rocks were thrown from a footbridge at passing vehicles on two separate occasions.

Officers in Glenrothes say around 10pm on April 24 and again at 10pm on April 28 people have thrown rocks at passing vehicles from a footbridge over the B969 on Western Avenue.

Police were deployed to the scene at the time of the incidents but their search for the culprits “proved fruitless”.

Two vehicles sustained damage to their windscreens during the incidents and although no-one was injured, the occupants were said to have been left “shaken” by what had happened.

Police would like to hear from anyone who may have seen people on the bridge around the time or may have dashcam footage.

They say the lives of road users were put at risk during the “reckless” incidents.

Sergeant Reidie from the Glenrothes Community Team said: “Throwing stones at passing vehicles is completely reckless and could have devastating consequences.

“This is a fast road, and it is incredibly lucky that no-one was seriously injured or worse.

“We are asking for the public’s help to identify those responsible for putting the lives of road users at risk.
