A serving Police Scotland officer has been sentenced after admitting inappropriate communications with a child.
Cameron Fraser, 28, was given a six-month community payback order on Wednesday, June 5.
He pled guilty before Sheriff James Williamson at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court on Tuesday, May 7.
The charge stated that between October 15, 2022 and October 25, 2022, in Dundee and elsewhere Fraser “did behave in a threatening or abusive manner which was likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear or alarm in that [he] did use social media to engage in inappropriate conversations with [redacted name of boy] born [in] 2009 and send sexual images of himself posing in stages of undress including one in which he was naked”.
A Police Scotland Professional Standards Department investigation will now begin proceedings for gross misconduct.
Chief superintendent Helen Harrison said: “Fraser’s offending and behaviour was appalling.
“In committing this crime Fraser believed that his online offending would go undetected.
“However, there is no hiding place, and as a result of our investigation he will now rightly face the consequences of his actions.
“Any form of child sexual abuse is a serious criminal offence, and we encourage anyone with concerns about a child at risk of abuse, or a potential victim, to contact police immediately.
“It is right policing is held to high standards and we will always support officers and staff acting with our values and standards at heart.
“Those who reject what we stand for do not belong in Police Scotland.”
