Police Scotland officer sexually assaulted colleagues on work nights out

A police officer has admitted sexually assaulting female colleagues in nightclubs in Aberdeen and Dundee.

Ross Campbell, 44, pled guilty to five charges ahead of a trial in which he faced a total of nine charges.

Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard Campbell, of Cove, admitted to touching and groping five women constables between September 2019 and February 2020 at several locations on work nights out.

On one charge where he sexually assaulted a woman at Aberdeen’s Club Tropicana, he seized her by the body, pulled her towards him and struck her on the buttocks.

On another night at Siberia nightclub, he admitted assaulting two women and the court heard of sexual assaults on two further women at The Counting House bar in Dundee and on a train between Dundee and Aberdeen.

Campbell, initially faced nine sexual assault charges, he pled guilty to five and this was accepted by the Crown.

The court heard Campbell was a temporary sergeant at the time of the offences. His defence counsel said he offered an “unreserved apology” to his victims.

He is currently suspended by Police Scotland and the force said the matter has now been referred to the deputy chief constable for their consideration.

Sheriff Graham Buchanan placed Campbell on the sex offenders register and deferred sentencing until next month.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police Scotland acknowledges the outcome of the court proceedings.”

Superintendent Lorna Ferguson, of the Professional Standards Department, said: “We are aware of the outcome of the case. The matter will be referred to the deputy chief constable for professionalism, digital and transformation for consideration under the Police Service of Scotland (Conduct) Regulations 2014.”
