Members of the public has been urged not to share misinformation after a girl was charged over allegedly wielding a knife and axe.

Officers were made aware of a video which had been shared on social media following an incident in which a Bulgarian couple were approached by youths on St Ann Lane in Dundee.

Investigators have since charged a 12-year-old in connection with possessing offensive weapons.

Police Scotland say they have been made aware of speculation and misinformation surrounding the incident from online accounts, including Tommy Robinson, James English and Elon Musk.

The public has been told not to share false information.

Chief Superintendent Nicola Russell said: “We are aware of misinformation being shared on social media in relation to an incident where a Bulgarian couple was approached by youths in St Ann Lane, Dundee, on Saturday, August 23, 2025.

“A 12-year-old girl has been charged with being in possession of offensive weapons. She will be referred to the relevant authorities and our enquiries are ongoing.

“We would like to thank the local community for their help with our investigation and would urge the public not to share misinformation about this incident or speculate on the circumstances.”
