RAF officer presents fundraising cheque to Scottish Air Ambulance Charity after plane crash rescue in Elgin

An RAF officer saved by an air ambulance after a plane crash has presented a fundraising cheque to the charity that runs the operation.

Scottish Air Ambulance Charity were called to pilot Iain Bright after his plane crashed near Elgin shortly after take-off at Easterton Airfield in July 2021.

Iain was taken to the major trauma unit at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for urgent treatment just 60 minutes after the crash, thanks to the air ambulance’s swift rescue.

To show their gratitude, Iain’s colleagues, C4I Squadron, raised £650 for the charity at their squadron dinner through a donation from the squadron’s entertainment fund.

They handed over the cheque during a tour of SCAA facilities at Aberdeen Airport.

Flight lieutenant Iain Bright, mission systems officer, said: “As a charity funded solely by charitable donations, the SCAA do an amazing job – I can personally testify to that their quick work on the day made a huge difference.

“I am eternally grateful to them and was delighted that the Squadron was able to raise this money so they can continue their incredible work.”

Squadron leader Neil Swift, officer commanding, C4I Squadron, said: “We were delighted to be able to support the Air Ambulance, particularly after what they did for Iain.

“The SCAA team at Dyce were fantastic hosts as they explained how the operation works from initial phone call to take off. The paramedics showed us all the lifesaving equipment that they take on board and the pilot showed us around the Air Ambulance.

“All at Team Lossie extend their gratitude to the SCAA for the work they do.”
