A rat infestation at a primary school in Aberdeenshire has delayed its reopening following the summer holidays.
Staff returned to Lumphanan Primary School on Tuesday and found evidence of rats within the premises.
Pupils were expected to return on Wednesday; however, Aberdeenshire Council has confirmed that the school will not fully reopen until Monday at the earliest.
Pest control has been contacted to deal with the issue
An Aberdeenshire Council spokesperson said: “The health, safety and wellbeing of our pupils and staff remain our highest priority and we have taken prompt action to address the issue.
“We are currently working with a pest control company to address the situation as quickly as possible, however, unfortunately this means that school was not able to reopen as expected Wednesday.
“We currently anticipate that we will not be able to reopen safely until Monday, August 24 at the earliest and are currently exploring alternatives.”
