Schoolgirl shares dream of working alongside 'inspirational' dad for RNLI Lifeboat in Peterhead

A schoolgirl has shared her dream of following in her father’s footsteps to become an RNLI crew member to help “save lives”.

Hollie Hutton said her dad Jonathon is her “biggest inspiration” after he joined Peterhead RNLI lifeboat crew in 2014.

The 12-year-old said she can remember the first time her dad’s pager went off and waited eagerly at home for him to return and tell her about the call out.

She hopes that in the future she can work alongside her dad when she is old enough to join the RNLI.

She said: “I feel that I would be a good member to the team and hopefully get to work alongside my dad and the crew I have known since I was little.

“I cannot wait to finally pursue my dream job by saving lives, helping people and working together as one amazing team.

“I really hope that I will accomplish my dream with a lot of challenging work and training.

“But I know I will get there someday and be working side by side with my biggest inspiration, my dad.”

Hollie added that she already knows the skills, knowledge and training she requires to achieve her dream to support the RNLI, who rely on volunteers like her father.

Jonathon told STV News: “I’m so delighted that my daughter has such a passion for the RNLI and that she is so eager to be involved in the charity.

“I have loved sharing my experiences on shouts and on the lifeboats with her, and I hope that she can eventually live out her dream of joining the volunteer lifeboat crew.

“It would mean so much to me to keep the RNLI in our family.”
