A ten-year-old girl has written a letter apologising to police in Dundee after calling 999 on a “double dare”.
The child said she was “incredibly sorry” about the hoax call after realising she took operators away from answering “real calls”.
“I know that I should never call 999 unless it is a real emergency, no matter what other people said to me,” the girl said of the call made on April 25.
She continued: “I know that a ‘double dare’ is no reason to call 999.
“I promise that I will never do it again and will make sure that my friends know not to.
“My mum and dad have made sure that I know how serious my choices could have been that day and the impact on all the emergency services.
“I can never say sorry enough and am very grateful for all the hardworking emergency services in this country.”
Officers thanked the girl for her apology over falsely calling 999.
They said in a statement: “Hoax calls are a serious matter, and fortunately no resources were diverted to deal with her call.
“Thank you for your honesty and your apology.”
