A fundraiser is aiming to raise £5,000 to help an ambulance worker with an assistance dog after they showed signs of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

The Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) has made the plea after a colleague of 20 years began showing signs of PTSD.

The emergency service is hoping to raise the money to bring in an assistance dog called Jagger after the worker recently met him and “smiled for the first time in a year”.

The staff member had been through traditional support for the disorder but the SAS hopes money raised can be used towards the training and provision of the dog.

Assistance dogs are trained to meet the staff member’s specific requirements and any additional funds raised will be donated to Assistance Dogs Scotland.

Katie Allan, clinical team leader at Peterhead, said: “Our colleague recently had the opportunity to meet an assistant support dog and the effect on him and his symptoms was profound.

“Within 15 minutes of meeting the support dog there was an outstanding positive effect, and after the first hour the change in our colleague was amazing.

“We saw him laugh and smile for the first time in over a year.”
