A Gothic tower upon a hilltop overlooking the Lomond Hills and River Tay has been put up for sale at £60,000.
The B-listed Binnhill Tower, more than 200 years old, is surrounded by historic woodland and offers panoramic views across Perth and Kinross.
Built by Francis Gray – the 14th Lord Gray – in 1813, the structure was erected as an observatory and focal point within the grounds of Kinfauns Castle, an imposing A-listed Gothic mansion.
There is no road to the tower so visitors must arrive on foot through the forest.
You enter through an arched front door into a ground floor featuring an octagonal spiral staircase.
There are four floors and a roof terrace offering views across the woodlands, countryside and banks of the River Tay.
Estate agents Thorntons described it the “prominent landmark” as “a truly rare and unique opportunity for anyone seeking a historic and romantic building”.
Recently, the property has undergone some repair work, including the replacement of joists and the addition of a roof to make it watertight from the top.
But it is “ripe for a Grand Designs-style transformation”, Thorntons said.
The tower has lapsed planning permission to be restored and converted into a dwelling, and it comes with a small footprint of land.
It has been a landmark for the nearby village of Kinfauns which is home to the A-listed Kinfauns Castle.
The village itself is only a short drive from Perth which was finally granted city status in 2016 as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
