Dundee high school pupils are showcasing the firefighting drills they’ve been learning as part of a project run by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
Over the past eight weeks, students from four of the region’s high schools have trained in various firefighting disciplines, including casualty rescue, operating a hose and erecting a ladder.
Working alongside the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service for two hours a week, the youngsters have received operational training to emphasise the importance of teamwork and discipline.
Service personnel gave up their own time to work with the pupils who were selected by teachers for the programme.
On Friday morning they gathered at the city’s Blackness Road station for the final of the Dundee Schools and Fire Service Competition where family and friends joined them.
SFRS Group Commander Mike Youngson helped to organise the project.
He said: “Community-driven projects like this present us with the opportunity to strike up lasting relationships with young people and to share with them transferable skills which can be used in future settings.
“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all of the pupils and staff who competed in the Dundee Schools and Fire Service Competition and to thank everyone involved who has made this a success.”
The teams that went head-to-head were:
Blackness Fire Station alongside Harris Academy.
Balmossie Fire Station partnered up with Braeview Academy.
Macalpine Station joined Baldragon Academy and Kingsway Station rallied behind Craigie High School.
