FacebookA Scot has been killed while his friend is fighting for his life after a masked gunman opened fire at a bar in St Lucia.
Donnie McKinnon, from Aberdeen, and Peter Jackson had been at the balcony of Steve’s Bar in the Soufriere area of the Caribbean island when they were caught in the incident on Saturday afternoon, according to local reports.
Mr McKinnon, who is believed to have been living on the island for 13 years as manager of the Soufriere Estate, died of his injuries.
Freelance photographer Mr Jackson, from Lancashire, is understood to have lived on the island for three decades and remains in a critical condition in hospital.
Local reports say that both men were well known “community people”.
The St Lucia Times reported that one local said: “Everyone knew them. They were community people. This is sad.”
A Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office spokesperson said: “We are supporting the family of a British man who has died and a British man who has been injured in St. Lucia.”
The Royal St Lucia Police Force has been contacted for comment.
