A number of dogs have died and exotic pets rescued after a fire broke out at a home in Fife.
Emergency services were called to Castle Terrace in Kennoway at 2.20pm on Monday following reports of a blaze.
Three fire crews tackled the flames for over two hours, while a section of the road was closed off.
There were no people inside the property at the time of the fire, however the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed a number of dogs were found dead inside.
A spokesperson for the SFRS said: “We were alerted at 2.20pm on April 13 to reports of a dwelling fire on Castle Terrace in Kennoway.
“Operations Control mobilised three appliances to extinguish the fire.
“There were no reported casualties, but sadly a number of pets passed away at the scene. Crews left at 5.17pm after ensuring the area was made safe.”
Several unknown exotic pets were rescued alive and taken to an external vet for treatment.
A spokesperson for the Scottish SPCA, who were on the scene, said: “We can confirm we attended the scene. Unfortunately, as it has been reported the dogs were deceased.
“The exotic animals were taken to an external vet for treatment, and they are not in our care.”
Police Scotland were also contacted for comment.
