A sex predator who plied an underage girl with vodka until she was vomiting and passing out before raping her has been jailed for more than ten years.

Bryan Wilson, 41, encouraged his victim to take part in a “drinking competition” before sexually assaulting the 15-year-old.

Wilson had earlier subjected an adult woman to repeated attacks and rapes and ill-treated a girl.

On Tuesday, a judge told him at the High Court in Edinburgh: “You stand convicted of multiple rapes, assaults and cruelty to a child.”

Lady Poole added: “It is quite clear the impact of your offending has been devastating and has had long-term consequences.”

The judge told Wilson, who has a lengthy criminal record including for serious assault and attempted murder, that the offences were “despicable”.

Lady Poole jailed him for a total of ten years and four months and ordered that he should be kept under supervision on licence for a further four years.

Unemployed Wilson earlier admitted two rape charges, an assault and a child cruelty charge all committed in his former home city of Dundee. The offences occurred between 2009 and last year.

Wilson raped the teenager on May 30 last year when she was so intoxicated that she was incapable of giving or withholding consent.

Advocate depute Derick Nelson told the court: “The accused dared the complainer to drink vodka mixed with Tango orange, telling her it was a drinking competition.

“At first she said she did not want to drink, but the accused kept encouraging her and eventually she agreed to drink.”

Mr Nelson said they shared a large bottle of vodka with the girl having about eight glasses.

“She felt heavily intoxicated and dizzy as a result of the alcohol she had consumed. The complainer tried to get up, but kept falling over,” said the prosecutor.

Wilson suggested to the girl that she should sit on his knee and offered to adjust an uncomfortable bra strap.

Mr Nelson said: “By this stage, the complainer was repeatedly vomiting and having intermittent periods where she blacked out due to excessive alcohol consumption.”

Wilson also assaulted and raped a 32-year-old woman at addresses in Dundee and subjected a child to ill-treatment from the age of four.

During the abuse of the youngster, he slapped and pushed her and shouted and swore at her. He also sent her a picture of one of her teddies with a knife through it, which distressed the child.

Defence counsel Ronnie Renucci QC said Wilson’s guilty pleas had spared victims further trauma of having to give evidence at a trial.

He said: “He accepts and appreciates that his behaviour was unacceptable.”

Mr Renucci said Wilson now recognised the harm and effect of his actions and apologised.

He said Wilson was previously assessed as having a low IQ and had experienced anger management problems.

Wilson, who followed the sentencing proceedings from jail via a video link, was placed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely.

Police Scotland welcomed Wilson’s conviction on Tuesday.

Detective inspector Marc Lorente, the senior investigating officer from Tayside Division CID, said: “We welcome the sentencing of Bryan Wilson and I would like to acknowledge the bravery of the teenage girl who came forward and worked with our specialist officers.

“She had been subjected to a catalogue of abuse and ill-treatment by Wilson over a significant number of years.

“I would also like to thank the woman who had been subjected to repeated rapes over a sustained period by Wilson and also had the courage to speak up.

“The bravery of these two females will also send a message out to victims that no matter how long the abuse has gone on, there is support out there and we will pursue a thorough investigation, using all means at our disposal, whilst working with the Procurator Fiscal, to bring such predators before the court.”

The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) said the teenage victim had “shown immense bravery in coming forward” to ensure her abuser was brought to justice and jailed.

An NSPCC Scotland spokesperson said: “All types of abuse can have a devastating impact on children and young people, lasting well into adulthood, and it is important that victims receive all the treatment and support they need to help them recover.

“It is so important that those who have been subjected to abuse are encouraged to come forward and that they have the confidence they will be listened to and allegations will be thoroughly investigated.”

Adults who have experienced abuse as a child or have concerns about a child’s welfare can contact the NSPCC helpline on 0808 8005000 or email help@nspcc.org.uk. Children can contact Childline on 0800 1111.
